All dolls are still made by blacklilypie in the studio. The fabric is printed professionally with digital artwork, but all sewing is completed one by one.
When you order from the blacklilypie shop, your goods come right from the studio and are packed with care.
Blacklilypie (Tara Fortin) has been creating and selling art online since 2006.
Based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Combining the dark and the sweet, blacklilypie blends the world of imaginary monsters with the cool edge of goth. A sometimes sinister, but never scary collection of high contrast creatures and illustrative designs that appeal to children and adults alike.
Over the years, blacklilypie has been an outlet for all manner of cute, weird, pretty, strange, useful and decidedly non-useful but fun creations. All blacklilypie designs are created with the unifying characteristic of a spooky sweetness. Dark but not frightening.
Batcat is an original character that was created while studying illustration in university. Equal parts fairy, bat, cat and monster, this character has been a repeating figure in blacklilypie art.
Blacklilypie also designs fabric and other surface design. Many fabrics available to purchase through Spoonflower, which makes these patterns available on a wide variety of fabric yardage and wallpaper.
A background in painting still shows itself in many blacklilypie designs. Spatter and irregular pooling patterns of acrylic paint often add an uncontrolled element to otherwise clean and bold artwork.
Blacklilypie lives in a 1950’s house with her partner and three cats. She spends time rescuing kittens from the yard, thrifting vintage treasures for her other Etsy shop, and baking lemon poppyseed muffins with 5 times as many poppyseeds as the recipe suggests.
FAQ
Can I get something you drew tattooed on me?
Yes! Of course you can and I would love to see it. If its something I am selling, it would be kind of you to buy the art in question. Please tag blacklilypie when you post your tattoo, so I see it and others know where the artwork comes from.
Will you make me a custom doll of my pet?
I don’t accept custom requests for dolls as it is a very long process to have individual designs printed. I have done one or two in the past as favours. Sorry!
Why don’t you ship to my country?
Plush toys and dolls have quite strict regulations. They must be tested very specifically so they are safe for babies and children. As I make a few dozen designs, and am creating more all the time, it would be quite difficult and expensive to make sure I meet all standards for toys on some areas. Recently E.U. countries increased the standards for testing and I no longer ship there.
I do make sure my toys are sewn very securely, out of safe materials, but they are not tested for children or babies.
Even if a toy is intended as an adult doll or collector’s item, it is still held to the same testing standards.
Can you remake this thing for me?
Maybe! Depending on the item, I may be able to make one for you. Dolls and fabric items can be reprinted, but may require for or 5 weeks wait time. Prints may be reprinted as well. Contact the shop through the contact page with questions about the items you are interested in.
